The only published literary work, apparently appearing without the author's consent, of army officer and politician Martin Bladen (1680-1746), whose historical significance rests on his role as commissioner for the Board of Trade and Plantations, a position he held for a record 29 years. Bladen's other works include an English translation of Caesar's Commentaries of his Wars in Gaul (London, 1714) and a history of the war with Spain fought between 1702 and 1710 (London, 1726).
