Franciscan Friar Richard Mason [name in religion Angelus a Sancto Francisco] (1599/1600-1678). Originally published in 1636, the work contains a catalogue of the writings of English Franciscans; four martyrs and one confessor (each accompanied by an engraved portrait). In addition Mason discusses the various facets of the English Franciscan experience, including martyrdom and the apostolate of the printed word. The appendix describes missionary works in Japan, India, Morocco, and England.
