[LAW, Edmund]. Considerations on the propriety of requiring a subscription to articles of faith.

Cambridge. Printed by J. Archdeacon, 1774. First edition.
8vo. [2], 37pp, [1]. Without final advertisement leaf. Recent two-tone paper boards, printed paper lettering-piece. Minor shelf-wear. Internally clean and crisp.
The first edition of Bishop of Carlisle and theologian Edmund Law's (1703-1787) most influential work, developed from lectures delivered at Cambridge University. The book posits that the human race has been, and is, through a process of divine education, gradually and continuously progressing in religion, both natural and revealed, at the same rate as it progresses in all other knowledge, the one confirming the other as a deeper knowledge of the world created by God is attained.
