Oblong 8vo. 10 albumen prints mounted on cloth as concertina. Original publisher's green cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt. Rubbed, marked, and bumped, upper joint starting, paper label with printed numeral pasted to upper board. Printed topographical information pasted to REP (as issued), with bookseller's ticket of Alexander Mitchell of Portree.
A rare survival of an album of prints of views of the Isle of Skye taken by Scottish photographer George Washington Wilson (1823-1893). A pioneering of landscape photography, Wilson enjoyed the patronage of the Royal Family, receiving the official appointment of Photographer Royal for Scotland in 1860. In addition to his considerable technical prowess, he demonstrated commercial acumen, with the company he founded becoming, by the early 1880s, one of the largest and best-known photographic and printing firms in Scotland.
