The first edition of an anthology of comprised of chronologically ordered documents from the Uclés monastery archive, tracing the history of the Military Order of Saint James of the Sword.

The exceptionally baroque allegorical title page, representing the Apostle Saint James hewing down Saracens, is the work of Pedro de Villafranca Malagón (c. 1615-1684), Madrid-based painter and printmaker and sometime engraver-in-ordinary to Philip IV. The title page illustration was originally produced for Francisco Ruiz de Vergara Álava's Regla, y establecimientos, de la orden y cavalleria.
