The fourth edition of Byron's heroic poem The Bride of Abydos, utilising a Turkish setting to stage its relatively straightforward tragic love story. Byron makes up for this simplicity with experiments in meter and rhyme, combining a range of rhyme schemes and line structures - a choice which has been both praised and critiqued since the poem's publication, with some declaring it awkward and ill-fitting.
