Original publisher's gilt-stamped olive-green cloth. Lightly rubbed and marked, with neat repair to upper joint of Vol. II and little soiling to upper board of Vol. I. Armorial bookplates to FEPs with the Latin motto 'Suivant Saint Pierre', very occasional slight chipping to margins.
The sole edition of a selection of ninety-four letters written by Jane Austen to her elder sister Cassandra; compiled and published by politician and bibliophile Edward Hugessen Knatchbull-Hugessen, Baron Brabourne of Brabourne (1829-1893) who had inherited the original manuscripts from his mother, Fanny Catherine, Austen's niece.
