'Perhaps no circumstance could have occurred more fortunate for the manufactures of Glasgow, than the stop which has, for some time, been put to the commerce with America'.

The sole edition of a history of Glasgow - principally the rise and progress of commercial activity in the city and the benefits to local manufacturers due to a cessation of trade with America occasioned by the late war - the only published work of Glaswegian merchant John Gibson (d. 1787).
