8vo. [22], 328pp. With an engraved portrait frontispiece of the Rev. John Kettlewell. Contemporary blind-stamped panelled speckled calf, contrasting gilt-tooled red morocco lettering-piece. A crisp copy, a little rubbed and marked to joints. Small worm-track to foot of upper joint. Slight spotting to text throughout.
The fifth edition of English clergyman and nonjuror John Kettlewell's (1653-1695) treatise on the Holy Sacrament and its blessings. Kettlewell, a noted adversary of the Glorious Revolution, became most known for his attacks against William Sherlock, who's switch of allegiance to William and Mary offended Kettlewell's spiritual arguments. The work would eventually reach eight editions.
