An attractively bound copy of select sermons by Scottish philosopher, historian, and Bishop of Salisbury Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715), together with an essay advocating the creation of a new book of homilies. Burnet was most well known for publishing The History of the Reformation of the Church of England (1679) as a rebuttal to Nicholas Sanders' attacks on the English Reformation - an act which won him the voted thanks of Parliament and the a Doctorate of Divinity from Oxford University in 1680.
