The first edition of a series of letters by Edmund Burt, also known as Edward Burt (d. 1755), English author and rent collector in Scotland, to an unknown correspondent in London. Within, Burt detailed the work of General George Wade in improving the roads of Scotland; the engravings within serve as important records of Highland dress around Inverness. Due to an awareness around his likely insulting depictions of Scotland, Burt published the letters anonymously during his lifetime, with the editor going so far as to say the original author was dead.
