With the early ink inscriptions of Wiliam Rudge/Rowe, his name and a short motto Latinised, scored through in ink, to the foot of title, and initials 'N.T.' and inscription 'Nat. Tattersall pr. 18d' within the border area itself. Occasional underlining, manuscript Latin annotations and English biblical references to margins, apparently in Tattersall's hand.

Marking to title-page of first work, tear to text of A9, without loss of sense, horizontal tear through D4 of second work, again without loss of sense, small competent paper repair to bottom margin of L7, very small hole to L10, touching text without loss of sense.

Jun. 1933'. Included is an A.L.S. from Prendergast addressed to Jellicoe, who provided to preface for the work, describing the somewhat unexpected publication of the French translation and conveying the success of the German edition. He continues to give account of new information recently received on several actions of German submersibles during the First World War, ending by thanking Jellicoe for his contribution.
